Tea Party Invitations
For a memorable celebration that is truly different, why not have a tea
party? Tea parties are adaptable to children or adults and can range from
formal "high teas" to casual picnic tea parties. Tea parties are
traditionally held mid to late afternoon, but can even be held in the morning if
you plan a light menu. Some popular tea party ideas are:
Bridal Shower Tea Party
A tea party is a fun way to honor the bride-to-be in a unique way. The
shower can be planned as a typical bridal shower with the exception of serving
tea and finger foods, or can elaborate on the theme. One idea is to ask
guest to bring tea-related gifts, such as dainty teacups, fancy napkins or even
different varieties of tea.
Victorian Tea Party
A Victorian tea party is the perfect theme for Mother-Daughter
parties. You can ask your guests to come dressed in Victorian attire, or
supply accessories to "dress up." A Victorian Tea party can also
be adapted to a tasteful lingerie bridal shower.
Baby Shower Tea Party
Baby showers tend to come in groups, so it is nice to have a theme that is a
little different than the typical shower. A baby shower tea party is a fun
way to honor the mother-to-be. Be sure to serve both hot and cold tea and
include some sandwiches or snacks that aren't sweet. If you wish, you can
request that guests bring a small freezable dish for the guest of honor, so she
won't have to spend time cooking for a few days after the baby arrives.
Sip 'n See Tea Party
An old fashioned custom that is making a comeback is the sip 'n see tea
party. When the new baby is a few weeks old and the mother is ready to enjoy company, it is a fun way to introduce friends and co-workers to
the new arrival. Be sure to have at least two hostesses for the party, so
one can help care for the baby if necessary. The guest list should be
small and the beginning and ending time should be included on the

Picnic Tea Party
For mothers who work outside of the home, a picnic tea party is a great way
to have a fun celebration for kids without having to spend a lot of time
preparing before the party or cleaning up afterwards. Plan outdoor
activities and games and instead of having the guests dress up, you may have a
straw hat decorating contest. Provide a straw hat for each guest,
along with some plastic flowers, markers and decorations. Small clay pots
can be used for decorations and packets of flower seeds can be used as
party favors. For outdoor parties, the Backyard Tea Party invitation shown
above is a favorite.
Girl's Birthday Tea Party
A fancy tea party is one the birthday girl and her guests will long
remember. Along with dressing up and meeting with friends, girls get a chance to
practice their "company manners." Dress-up costumes are offered
by professional party planners, but it is fun and easy come up with your
own. Tiny girls will have fun choosing accessories like crowns and
boas. For older girls, you can provide glitter lotions,
fingernail stickers and other makeup items that are currently popular for girls.
Be sure to provide one or two disposable cameras so the girls can take before
and after photos.
Tea Tasting Party
A tea tasting party is especially appreciated in the cold winter
months. You should provide 4-5 different varieties of tea, along with
small sandwiches and cookies. For women's groups and clubs, each guest can
bring their own cup and saucer, along with one variety of tea. Since the
food is buffet style and only the tea needs to be served, it is easy to combine
the tea tasting party with an awards ceremony or other club function.
