Quinceañera Party

The Quinceanera celebration is unique to Latin American culture and is a cherished tradition for Hispanic girls throughout  the world. This coming-of-age celebration is believed to date back to Aztec times when fifteen was the age at which girls  would leave their family to become wives and mothers. In Latin communities, Quinceanera remains an important ritual to symbolize the beginning of womanhood. The elaborate celebration highlights God, family, friends, food, music and dancing, and planning often begins months in advance. The celebration has Catholic roots and traditionally includes a church mass or religious ceremony, followed by a dinner reception and dance. The quinceanera is usually escorted by her father or another male relative and is attended by a court of honor. The court was traditionally made up of seven girls and seven boys (which, including the Quinceanera, totals 15 young people), but in recent times has evolved to include fourteen couples for some formal celebrations. The Quinceanera traditionally wears a ball gown and her court dresses in gowns and tuxedos. The occasion is rich with tradition and numerous websites and magazines are available to help with planning the symbolic event. Resources offer information about everything from kneeling pillows, tiaras, favors for guests and the traditional choreographed waltz to Quinceanera dolls. You may wish to strictly adhere to historical traditions or to blend new customs and themes into your celebration. Many modern quinceaneras enjoy incorporating a theme into their party which reflects their individual personality and makes the celebration distinctly their own. Regardless of how you decide to celebrate this momentous occasion, careful planning can make it an event to remember.
